MonologueSlam UK comes to Theatre Peckham with a special Junior Edition for 11-17 year old performers!

MonologueSlam is a nationwide industry showcase for actors from all backgrounds. 22 actors are given the opportunity to perform for a welcoming audience and a panel of industry professionals who are in a position to move their careers forward. This event helps performers that may not have access to the usual routes into the industry and provides agents and casting directors with an avenue to source fresh talent.

The show consists of a two rounds, with 11-13 year olds performing in round one, and 14-17 year olds performing in round two.

Join us to celebrate some amazing young acting talent on Friday 12 July at Theatre Peckham!

At TriForce, we’re committed to making our events accessible to everyone. MonologueSlam London Junior Edition is held at Theatre Peckham which is an accessible venue. Find out more here.

As Executive Producer for Kindle Entertainment, Emma develops shows for the YA and family market. Previous Script Editor and Producer credits include ‘Jamillah and Aladdin’ for CBBC as well as ‘Holby City’, ‘ Waterloo Road’ for BBC and ’Stella’ for Sky. Before moving to TV, Emma worked in theatre, including as Assistant Director on shows at the National, RSC, Edinburgh International Festival and in the West End.

Shakyra Dowling
Casting Director

Independent Casting Director, Shakyra Dowling, twice nominated in The Inaugural UK CDA Casting Awards 2017 has been working for over two decades on Sundance, BAFTA, Berlinale and Oscar nominated films whilst zealously promoting diversity in casting.

Actors she has discovered, including Laurie Kynaston, Rosie Day and Jessica Barden have gone on to be Screen International Stars of Tomorrow.

She has cast genre-spanning British and international films including the Swedish The 100 Year Old Man who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared, French social comedy Naked Normandy (starring Toby Jones), Cuban/Canadian co-production Un Traductor (Rodrigo Santoro) and No Fathers In Kashmir by Oscar nominated Ashvin Kumar.

Shooting starts this month on her latest feature project, WW1 film Claykickers, with a stellar cast including Sam Hazeldene.

Heather Basten
Casting Director

Heather Basten began in the industry at the BFI. She then moved into casting for Film and TV. Heather has cast for notable directors such as Rob Savage, Ana Rocha De Sousa and Charlotte Regan.

Past productions include Fox TV, Delaval Films, Sky Arts and DMC Films, as well as having films screened at Sundance and the BFI London Film Festival.

Her work spans from working alongside Jeremy Zimmermann (Hellboy), and went to be casting assistant on NBC’s ‘A.D’. She moved on as casting assistant to Dixie Chassay (The Favourite), and then resided with Des Hamilton (Top Boy, This Is England) where she assisted Lara Manwaring on BAFTA-winning TV Feature ‘Ellen’, as well as part of the NYC streetcasting team for ‘WHITE BOY RICK’.

Carol Wilson
Acting Coach | Talent Manager LA & UK

Carol was born and grew up in Liverpool. She was a child actor, training and working in the West End.

She went on to become a Police Officer but broke a bone in her neck in an accident. She returned to the entertainment industry and went on to coach actors and build careers worldwide. She has recently written and produced a short film “Beyond Then Tracks’ after the success of her first short that made it to Cannes.

Carol currently coaches and inspires a generation of actors in TV and Film on set and privately, splitting her time mostly between LA and the UK.

Her clients are in lead roles in shows such as WestWorld, Salem, Game of Thrones, Once Upon A Time, The Magicians, Coronation Street and many more Her credits include BBC, FOX, SYFY, DISNEY, NICKELODEON, E4, WGN AMERICA, ITV & MAJOR FEATURE FILMS

 

Waleed Elgadi
Actor

Waleed Elgadi is a MonologueSlam alumni who won the first ever MonologueSlam LA in 2016. He is a well established actor of screen and stage. His film highlights have included the BBC/HBO co production DIRTY WAR, working with acclaimed directors Chris Morris on FOUR LIONS and Oscar winning Suzanne Bier on BRODRE, and more recently alongside Tom Hanks in the feature A HOLOGRAM FOR THE KING directed by Tom Tykwer. He also stars in the upcoming Russo Brothers produced MOSUL due for general release in 2019. Recent television highlights have included playing recurring character Walid Rachid in TYRANT for 21st Century Fox and series regular Salim in ITV’s TUTANKHAMUN. In theatre Waleed was part of the RSC’s 2017 ROME season, and went on to make his writing and acting debut at Shakespeare’s Globe in 2018 as part of the VOICES IN THE DARK season. Other theatre highlights include working with Tom wright on THE CONTAINER – winner of a Fringe First and The Amnesty International Freedom of Expression Award at Edinburgh and on an international tour with the one man show YASSER.

Suzann McLean
Artistic Director | Theatre Peckham

Suzann McLean is the CEO/Artistic Director of Theatre Peckham. An award winning actress, Associate Artist at York Theatre Royal, associate of Pilot Theatre and Founder of the award winning theatre school Young and Talented now in its 15th year.

Directing credits include Driving Miss Daisy (York Theatre Royal), Robin Hood (Theatre Peckham), Extremism (Dorfman Theatre /NTC 2017), Catcher (York Theatre Royal), Rebellion (Hackney Empire), The Sisterhood (in Bermuda), This Child (Pilot Theatre). As an actress Suzann has worked extensively on both stage and screen, credits include Sulphur and White, Good Omens, The Honourable Woman, Dr. Who, Little Miss Jocelyn, Measure For Measure (National Theatre), A Raisin in the Sun (Synergy Theatre), Dog Beneath the Skin (Jermyn Street Theatre), Ray Blk Run Run video and Winner of British Arrows Gold award for Best Performance 2017 for her BUPA commercial. Suzann trained in Acting at Italia Conti Academy and has an MA from Middlesex university in Directing and Producing theatre for social change.

Chisara Agor

Multi disciplinary artist Chisara Agor is a musician, actor and theatre maker. Growing up in Peckham she began her professional career in the sunnier climes of Madrid. This singer songwriter is self taught at the guitar and ukulele with her influences, ranging from jazz to folk, soul to indie pop. Having recently opened for award winning Blackstreet at the Jazz Cafe London, Chisara is admired for her socially aware and introspective lyrics.

Chizzy Akudolu
Host

Starting out as a comedy actor, writer and producer, Chizzy landed her first TV appearance after entering and winning a BBC Talent initiative. She went on to play parts in EastEnders, The Inbetweeners and SIlent Witness before securing the award-winning role of heart surgeon Mo Effanga in Holby City.

You might also have spotted her on Strictly Come Dancing, Celebrity Masterchef and Loose Women. She’s been the host of MonologueSlam in London since 2014.

Shoot From The Hip

Shoot From The Hip! are one of London’s premiere improvisational comedy troupes, who have been impressing and entertaining audiences since 2011. Shoot From The Hip! are Luke Manning, Alexander Jeremy, Thomas Mayo and Sam Russell.

Their incredible show is completely unscripted and is comprised of short scenes and games, blending witty one-liners and hilarious character comedy with off-the-cuff storytelling.

Shoot From The Hip! have been the resident improvisers at Drury Lane’s Top Secret Comedy Club since November 2011, at MonologueSlamUK’s showcases since 2012, and at Angel Comedy since January 2014. They’ve also performed at events such as Hoopla shows, Christ College Cambridge’s May Ball, and The Oxjam Charity Festival, picking up mentions in The Metro and Londonist along the way.
