MonologueSlam Graduate Edition is for actors who have graduated from training in 2014 or 2015. In keeping with our ethos of increasing access and inclusivity within the industry, this will include all those who have graduated from drama school (including Drama UK accredited courses and schools which are not Drama UK accredited) or from a university drama course.
MonologueSlamUK is a showcase like no other, with a DJ, improvisation group, musician and host (Chizzy Adudolu from Holby City) all making it an explosive night of entertainment in itself. It’s a friendly competition to showcase some of the hottest talent from across the UK drama schools, with a 1 Minute Smackdown Round, 3 Minute Heavyweight Round, and a year’s free membership to Spotlight for the winner!
Held in the main space of the 400 seat ‘Theatre Royal Stratford East’, it’s a free opportunity to represent your drama school and show the industry what you do best. Past industry judges have included casting directors such as Amy and Dan Hubbard (Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit, King Kong/Downton Abbey), Hannah Miller (RSC), Charlotte Bevan (National Theatre), Daniel Edwards (Mr Selfridge/Sherlock) and Gary Davy (Band of Brothers/Strikeback), with agents such Hamilton Hodell, Independent, Williamson & Holmes and Waring & McKenna.

Baff‘s debut was the acclaimed feature documentary FOOTBALL FABLES. He’s since gone on to direct drama for Channel 4 and the BBC. He’s most recently worked on the BBC1 legal/crime thriller UNDERCOVER and will next be directing on HOLBY CITY. Baff‘s currently developing a feature film and the only thing he loves more than working with actors is jollof rice!
Heather is a freelance Casting Assistant, Casting Director and Producer. Beginning in the industry at the British Film Institute, she met casting director, Jeremy Zimmermann. After just under a year as Casting Assistant to Jeremy, she worked on the American Series ‘A.D’ for NBC. Heather then moved on work on the studio picture ‘Pan’ (2015) with UK Casting Director, Dixie Chassay.
Independently, Heather has produced the new short film ‘A Silent Night’ (2015), starring Cat Simmons, as well as being Casting Director for Lisa Maffia’s upcoming Short, ‘Little Lighty’ (2016).
Heather currently resides at Des Hamilton Casting, working on various Feature films with the company…and enjoying every step along the way!
Jessica Lowe – Actors & Young Talent Agent has had a keen interest in the performing arts from a young age and, having taken part in various dance and drama classes, went on to obtain a diploma in Dance and Musical Theatre leading to her performing in various professional productions and driving her to teach and pass her skills on to young performers of all ages.
Having developed a passion for nurturing talent, Jessica joined Alphabet Kidz before becoming part of the Scallywags team. Being an agent for both of these agencies has given Jessica an eye for spotting talent at a young age and giving children and young adults the opportunity to perform in TV, film, commercials and theatre.
Jessica proudly represents a client list of emerging young talent from the ages of 13 years old and onwards.
Femi Oyeniran is a London-based Actor who has starred in hit films including Kidulthood, Adulthood, Anuvahood and 4321; with the former generating £500K, £3.2million and £2.1million at the box office respectively. Femi has recently written, co-directed, co-produced his first feature film It’s A Lot. Next summer will see the theatrical release of Taking Stockdirected by Meave Murphy. Femi plays the role of “Sponge” starring alongside Kelly Brook, Scot Williams and Georgia Groom. Oyeniran is currently putting the finishing touches to the script for The New Black Sheep, a film based on the London riots due to go into production later this year.
On completing his law degree at the London School of Economics (LSE) in 2008, Femi decided to focus on acting. Femi had already starred in genre-defining films Kidulthood and Adulthood alongside Noel Clarke and Adam Deacon, playing the role of ‘Moony’. In his experience as an actor, Femi decided there was a lack of projects portraying a rounded view of the Black British Experience. He produced a semi-autobiographical short film called Fresh off the Boat, which was nominated as part of the 2009 Film London ‘Best of Borough’ awards. The film tackles the issue of the cultural difficulties faced by young emigrants in London schools; Femi moved to England from Nigeria, at the age of ten.

Alex spent 4 years working at ARG, one of the UK’s leading talent agencies. He started his agency life at Curtis Brown having previously worked as a Theatre Producer after graduating from The Royal Central School of Speech & Drama.
X-factor’s Brick City are slowly becoming the talk of the city with their catchy choruses and choir like harmonies, the groups eclectic musical palette brings together a collective sound, image and electrifying stage presence that popular music has not seen since Spice Girls, Black Eyed Peas and Destiny’s Child.
L.C.D is a fresh take on the soulful classic ‘Love Come Down’ by Evelyn Champagne King. It taken from the bands E.P “A406” due for release winter 2015 and it serves as the bands first official release.
The band have been hard at work writing and collaborating with some of the UK’s finest producers and are receiving support from some of the UK’s leading acts such as Alexandra Burke, Jermaine Jackman, Rudimental and Gary Barlow.
With the success of their schools tour Entitled ‘The Love Come Down National Tour’ in conjunction with their new single LCD,the tour saw Brick City Go into schools all over the UK talking about the effects of drug, smoking and alcohol abuse. The tour went out with a special mission statement from the band:
“We have always been actively involved with young people whether it be individually or collectivly, so when the idea of a school tour was intially proposed to us we didnt want to go and just sing songs. We were very much aware of the drug smoking and underage drinking surrounding areas in the UK and we wanted these young people to understand the harsh releaties you can face in the future if you choose to make the wrong choices WE NEED TO ARM THEM WITH THE TOOLS TO SAY NO!”
With a brand new single out, a house remix which is already receiving massive support around Europe, a string of festival performances and a headline show which is guaranteed to have people climbing the walls the Brick City mantra, “WE ARE BRICK CITY AND WE’RE TO ENTERTAIN YOU”
will reign truth over London town in no time.
Shoot From The Hip! are one of London’s premiere improvisational comedy troupes, who have been impressing and entertaining audiences since 2011. Shoot From The Hip! are Luke Manning, Paul Raymond, Thomas Mayo, Sam Russell, and Joshua Mills.
Their incredible show is completely unscripted and is comprised of short scenes and games, blending witty one-liners and hilarious character comedy with off-the-cuff storytelling.
Shoot From The Hip! have been the resident improvisers at Drury Lane’s Top Secret Comedy Club since November 2011, at MonologueSlamUK’s showcases since 2012, and at Angel Comedy since January 2014. They’ve also performed at events such as Hoopla shows, Christ College Cambridge’s May Ball, and The Oxjam Charity Festival, picking up mentions in The Metro and Londonist along the way.
