MonologueSlam Birmingham Winners!
Friday night saw MonologueSlam UK back in the West Midlands at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre. Dean Smith had returned from his latest theatre tour and was back in the driving seat for a night showcasing amazing talent from the West Mids! We had an amazing judging panel including Laura Rollins, best known for playing Ayesha on BBC’s Doctors, Caroline Slater, a producer from BBC Doctor’s, Madeline Kludge, currently on the Regional Theatre Young Directors Scheme at Birmingham REP, film and TV director Daniel Alexander, actress, director and producer, Tonia Daley-Campbell and Leon Phillips, Drama Worker at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry.
After all 22 performers showcased their talent, the judges had a tough decision to make!
(From left to right, Ruby Richards, Mikhael DeVille and Tijan Bobb)
Ruby Richards won the Youth Round with her performance of Aren’t Siblings Just the Worst, written by former MonologueSlam champion Joanna Gay. Ruby was defending her title so will be back again to see if she can retain her crown! The One Minute Round title was taken by Mikhael DeVille with a self written monologue called Here Comes the Bride. Our Three Minute Round winner was TIjan Bobb, with a monologue from Arinze Kene’s, Little Baby Jesus. Tijan was also crowned our Overall Winner! Congratulations to all of you!
It was a tough decision for the judges, they awarded one Special Mention in the Youth Round and also in the One Minute Round and two Special Mentions in the Three Minute Round! From left to right we have Yasmin Annie (Youth Round), Anna Piper (One Minute Round), Amy Forrest and Nathan Queeley-Dennis (Three Minute Round).
But the night ended on a huge high when TriForce Creative Network CEO, Fraser Ayres, came down on stage. He was so blown away by the talent on show that he invited ALL the winners and Special Mentions to join the line up for the National Final in London in December!
Our Ruby Richards, Mikhael DeVille and Tijan Bobb will also be invited to defend their titles at the next West Midlands MonologueSlam which will be taking place at our new venue, The Belgrade Theatre in Coventry on 22nd November! (Don’t worry, we’ll be back at Birmingham REP for Spring 2019!)
