MonologueSlam London October Winners!
Last night saw the penultimate London show of the year at Theatre Royal Stratford East. It was great to be back in the building with some amazing talent on stage!
We had a total of 23 actors taking to the stage. Judging the performances were agents Wendy Scozzaro from Felix de Wolfe, Marvin Godfrey from Gavin Barker Associates and Clive Marcus from Marcus and McCrimmon. They were joined by casting directors Sue Needleman and Carl Proctor.
From left to right, Lauryn Ajufo (Youth Round), Emma Naomi (1 Minute Round) and Lauren Moakes (3 Minute Round).
We started of course with the Youth Round – some amazingly talented 11-17 year olds, several of whom are members of the Theatre Royal Stratford East Youth Theatre. Our Youth Round winner with Lauryn Ajufo, with a monologue from “For Colored Girls who have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow is Enuf” by Ntozake Shange. Lauren was our Youth Round defending champion from the July show, so she’s managed to hang onto her MonologueSlam crown! It was definitely a night of triumph for female performers, with the 1 Minute and 3 Minute Rounds also being won by women. Emma Naomi took home the 1 Minute Round prize, with “Low Dat” by Jess Walters, and in the 3 Minute Round the winner was Lauren Moakes with “It Kind of Looks Like a Doughnut” by Holly Boyden. Our 1 Minute Round winner Emma Naomi was then selected as the Overall Winner, and will go through to the National Final in December.
Congratulations to all of you!
The judges awarded Special Mention to one performer in each round. Congratulations to our stand out stars below! Madelyn was selected to perform at the Slam from the MonologueSlam Masterclass, just a couple of days before the Slam!
From left to right, Emmanuel Akinbami (Youth Round), Madelyn Smedley (1 Minute Round) and Alasdair Hankinson (3 Minute Round).

We’d also like to say well done to Finella Waddilove, who put her name in for the Golden Ticket competition and was selected by our host Chizzy Akudolu to come up on stage and perform a monologue. She came to support Mountview classmates Abby Dunlavy and Nicola Azzopardi and ended up on stage herself!
Upcoming Shows and Auditions
The next London MonologueSlam is the final one of the year and our National Final! We’ll be inviting the winners from all over the UK to perform at the final, but there are still slots available from our auditions. The winner of this show wins a great package including 1 year’s free Spotlight membership, 1 year’s free Mandy.com membership, a headshot package with the renowned photographer Michael Wharley and a voicereel from Silver Tongued Productions!
The show will be on Monday 17th December with adult (18+) auditions on 17th and 24th November and youth round (11-17) auditions on 21st November. For those who are a bit unsure about what to expect at the auditions, we also offer a Pre Audition Workshop to help you find a monologue and prepare for the auditions. This will be on Saturday 10th November. If you book the Pre Audition workshop you’ll be given a guaranteed audition slot to make sure you can put your learning into practice.
Following the auditions there is a MonologueSlam Masterclass, giving you chance to work on a specific monologue with one of our fantastic tutors. Two further performers will be selected to go straight through to the show from the Masterclass. This time the Masterclass will be on Saturday 8th December.
Check out the Events page for all upcoming auditions, workshops, shows and masterclasses. Auditions usually go live to book 2-3 weeks before they take place, so make sure you’re also signed up to our mailing list so you get informed when they’re available. Sign up
