MonologueSlam London Winners!
We were very grateful for the air conditioning at Theatre Royal Stratford East last night, with our big summer MonologueSlam show! The hot weather was rivalled by the hot talent on stage with some amazing performances…
We had a total of 23 actors taking to the stage. Judging the performances were agents Alex Segal and Marcus Ellard from Intertalent (formally Cole Kitchen), as well as Nic Knight, from Nic Knight Management, and casting directors Carolyn McLeod and John Cannon. We were all loving the theatre’s new makeover – we were treated to a brand new bar area and spruced up loos, with more updating coming over the next few months. Definitely worth a visit to check out the changes.
From left to right, Lauryn Ajufo (Youth Round), Lindsay Pattison (1 Minute Round) and Elizabeth Peace (3 Minute Round).
We started of course with the Youth Round – some amazingly talented 11-17 year olds, several of whom are members of the Theatre Royal Stratford East Youth Theatre. Our Youth Round winner with Lauryn Ajufu, with a monologue from “Murcyfine” by Shelly Cilus. It was definitely a night of triumph for female performers, with the 1 Minute and 3 Minute Rounds also being won by women. Lindsay Pattison took home the 1 Minute Round prize, with “Ah Don’t Hate the English” by Irvine Welsh, and in the 3 Minute Round the winner was Elizabeth Peace with “Ruined” by Lynn Nottage. Elizabethwas then selected as the Overall Winner, and will go through to the National Final in December, as well as coming back for our show on 1st October to defend her title.
Congratulations to all of you!
The judges awarded Special Mention to one performer in each round. Congratulations to our stand out stars below:

We’d also like to say well done to Yasmeen Khan, who put her name in for the Golden Ticket competition and was selected by our host Chizzy Akudolu to come up on stage and perform a monologue. It’s extremely nerve wracking to be in the audience one minute and the next up on stage so congratulations to Yasmeen for a fantastic performance!
We were treated to comedy from our resident improv group Shoot From The Hip as well as music from our special guest Emel Michael – such a fantastic show! Have a great summer break, and get working on those monologues so you can audition for the next show!
