MonologueSlam National Final Winners 2016!
Last night was the Winners’ Edition MonologueSlam at the beautiful Theatre Royal Stratford East! This National Final brought together the Overall Winners from the 2016 Slams as well as some performers chosen from our auditions to compete for a really incredible prize worth around £2500, including a year of free membership to Spotlight! To see more information about the prize see this post.
On the judging panel we had Menhaj Huda (director, KiDULTHOOD), Ramy El-Bergamy (On Screen Diversity Executive, Channel 4), Lisa Walters (Drama Development Coordinator, Channel 4), casting directors Andy Brierley and Rob Kelly, Clint Dyer (Director, Writer, Actor) and Amanda Howard of AHA Talent agency. They had a particularly tough job this time as the talent was so strong that to pick winners was extremely difficult, thanks again to the judges!
The Youth round Special Mention was won by the talented Emmanuel Akinbami with a piece by David Fielding and the Winner of this round was Adam Elwasila, who smashed a monologue from Jeff Kinney’s Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and with a very impressive American accent to boot.
The judges awarded the One Minute Round Special Mention to Connor Mills for his cracking rendition of a Joe Penhall piece and the winner of this round was Hannah Margaret with a hilarious self-written piece called Welcome to Disneyland.
Following this round was the wonderful Shoot from the Hip improvisation group getting everyone in the mood for the festive season with one particularly wonderful Santa jumper and a lot of quick wit between them!
After the heavyweight 3 Minute Round actors had taken the stage for the second half of the Slam the audience were treated to the talents of Jermain Jackman. He gave us feel good vibes with his first number followed by a powerful performance of And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going, the track which he wowed the judges on The Voice with in the series he won in 2014.
The judges returned from their deliberations and the Special Mention was awarded to Maia Watkins for her wonderful Stuart Slade monologue performance and the 3 Minute trophy was awarded to Kayla Meikle for a fabulous self-written piece called Tupperware.
The Overall Winner and MonologueSlam National Champion 2016 title was earned by Hannah Margaret, who wins the bumper prize!
With Channel 4 recently partnering with the TCN and MonologueSlam, representatives were also present to select 10 of the best finalists and explore ways to champion their careers with Channel 4 Drama, so watch this space to hear which 10 performers have been chosen by Channel 4! We will announce the names as soon as they are confirmed. To read more about this partnership see here.
We had both our MonologueSlam hosts in the house, Chizzy Akudolu (Holby) and Dean Smith (Last Tango in Halifax) as well as great Christmas tunes from DJ Webslinger. We were also happy to have the Glow team (TriForce Short Film Festival 2016 Best of the Fest winning film) in the audience. So much talent in the Network and it just keeps on growing!
That’s all the TriForce events for 2016 so we wish you very happy holidays and don’t forget to sign up to our mailing list to find out first about auditions, MonologueSlams or all our other events in 2017!
