MonologueSlam Winners’ Edition: National Winners
Theatre Royal Stratford East was home to our final MonologueSlam of 2015 on Monday night, and what a night!
Regional winners from all over the UK came to compete and the excitement was tangible. The industry panel included Brooke Kinsella, Agent at Cole Kitchenn, Catherine Willis of CW Casting, Sonia Allam, Casting Associate, Kristin Tarry of TCG Artist Management, Heather Basten, Casting Assistant and Suzy Caitliff, Shaftesbury Films UK Casting Director.
Congratulations go to Jerdane Calder who received a Special Mention in the Youth Round and Oakley Flanagan who bagged the Youth Round trophy with strong performances from all. The 1 Minute Round winner was Aaron Pierre with a Special Mention from the judges for Tim Bowie. Jurell Carter was given a Special Mention in the heavyweight round, and the winner of both this 3 Minute Round and the Overall Winner, making him MonologueSlam UK National Champion 2015, was Alex Tobias. Our last Golden Ticket performer of the year who stepped up on the night was Kyran Mitchell-Nanton.
All of the winners were given prizes including goody bags from our wonderful supporters at Spotlight. As MonologueSlam champion, Alex took home a prize package worth over £1500 including a year’s free membership to Spotlight, a headshot session with renowned photographer Michael Wharley, a popular showreel package with Actor’s Apparel worth £750 and goodies from our partners at MAC Cosmetics and Kiehls!
We were lucky enough to have our wonderful hosts, Chizzy Akudolu (Casualty) and Dean Smith (Last Tango in Halifax) as well as improv group Shoot from the Hip cracking us up for the evening. DJ Kellz was on the decks getting the night off with a bang and Ashleigh Ashley’s soulful voice was the perfect way to end the night.
The next MonologueSlam London will be announced shortly, but it won’t be long, so if you think you’re up to the challenge, why not get working on that monologue over the holidays!
